Code of Ethics Explanation

This Code of Ethics for the Family was developed under the auspices of the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) in partnership with many other organizations.  An international committee representing a broad spectrum of societies from all regions of the world formulated the Code. H.E. Dr. Abdelaziz Hegazy, former prime minister of Egypt, provided the founding vision for the Code, and the Pennsylvania Family Coalition offered practical assistance with its development. The family is the core unit of society.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, enacted without dissent by the United Nations in 1948, declares that “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the state.” It is in the state’s interest to protect the family as a fundamental unit of society. Healthy families, especially those led by married couples, lead to a stable, healthy communities, just as healthy cells in the body lead to overall well-being. However, the state and society often pose myriad stresses on the family, as well as the institution of marriage. This Code is intended to highlight the common features found in successful families to enhance the inabilities to cope with challenges in the world. Essentially, the family is the training ground for development of empathy, character and primary love relationships.

Ideally, men and women learn within their families how to care for others beyond themselves, to sacrifice themselves, and to love others wisely. In this way, the family is “the school of love,” an environment where good character, virtue, norms and manners can be cultivated. Ideally, within the nuclear family unit is the core relationship known as marriage. All cultures and all major religions have upheld the central role of marriage throughout history.

Marriage is the foundation for social order for many reasons -- it is recognized as the primary social institution for raising the children born to the parents; it establishes a sexually exclusive relationship, which allows husband and wife to both to freely invest in each other; and it clarifies issues of inheritance and lineage. Sadly, marriage has been undermined, especially by easy or no-fault divorce, non-marital cohabiting and social acceptance of casual sexual activity and unwed childbearing. Harmonious and successful families stand on moral and spiritual foundations, and share common features.

This Code of Ethics identifies key universal standards and ethical practices and is designed to be broadly applicable to families worldwide. It assumes the traditional model of the family, involving a father, a mother and children, as well as extended family such as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. It is hoped that this Code will benefit policy makers, political leaders and individual families in achieving a world of strong, stable, happy and loving families and marriages.

North Carolina International Day of Peace Report

On Saturday, September 18, Universal Peace Federation and Lovin Life Ministries, celebrated with over 90 guests the International Day of Peace. Their was food, music, games, skits and Ballroom Dancing.

.

From the 90 people in attendance at least 70% were guests,

..

What pulled in the numbers was the Helping Hands Misson Youth Band coming in Vans to celebrate. We collected 170 dollars for the Youth Band. Also a group, all the way from France called CANDIES performed dance / skits about HIV Aids and interpretive  issues.Didn't quite understand allot of it but I laughed alot.

We had 3 speakers talk about Peace.Carolyn Sampson, Martin Luther King  Task Force President of Cary, and soon to be WFWP president  here in NC. She talked about Living for the Sake of Others and we need to be involved in Service to make a change.

Dan and Yume Hutcherson, second generation couple, talked about Fathers take on marriage and creating strong marriages through the Blessing and creating Ideal families will lead to Peace.

Roy Taylor, running for Sheriff of Durham County, spoke about how he wanted to help the community and get the community involved in the problems and solutions. He brought some pastors with him that are working with youth violence and gangs in Durham.

Sylvia Wiggins, a long time friend,  brought the Helping Hands Youth Band spoke and said great things about Father. She held up Fathers book, and said she was half way through reading it and never knew Father went to prison. She was grateful for what he is doing and for all of us.

We had a recording artist sing some moving songs and Bob Huneycutt, Lovin Life Ministry member sang songs while people ate. their food.

We played games that reflected learning world history.

We finished the night with 2 second genearation members who taught us Ballroom Dancing.

We gave 21 Books of Fathers Audiobiography. Everyone one was sinerely grateful.to receivev the books. Some of the books will be going back to France where CANDIES the  performing group live.

I felt, that it was a present from God coming from the country of France because our oldest daughter, Shawna Pace Kempf lives in France , in Lyon with her spouse Tobias. Their culture is so different from ours. But I thought it was perfect to learn to appreciate the uniqueness  coming from  another country.

All in all it was a good event.

If we can work together, sing together, eat together, listen together then we can begin to make PEACE  together..

Thanks You Father for your never ending love and service to build Gods Kingdom of Peace on this Earth where every one can get along and feel we are all part of Gods one big family and  build  "ONE FAMILY UNDER GOD" !!

Universal Peace Federation Master Mind Report

Forty-two people attended the UPF Master Mind meeting, held at 43rd street this past Saturday, October 2nd.

To begin the day, the Junction band- lead by Diego Garcia with 3 other band members- provided several well performed songs to uplift our spirits. The band also performed again after lunch. Everyone genuinely appreciated the music and songs that they provided with great enthusiasm.

Universal Peace Federation, from the Founder and International Chairman

We began the meeting with True Father’s words from the Peace Messages on the Emergence of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF). True Father states, among other things, that peace movements of the past were all destined to failure, however, this is the age after the emergence of Heaven and we can now establish a world of True Peace, centered on True Parents.

We then watched the video “A Determined Man,” based on True Parents life, vision and legacy. The video concludes with True Parents work with the Universal Peace Federation.

We also included words from Rev. Hyung Jin Moon International Chairman of the Universal Peace Federation. We read the first and last pages from his inaugural UPF speech. In this speech, Hyung Jin Nim makes it clear that the only thing that has brought our movement to where it is today is the faith of our members and, in order to increase that spiritual force, the world must come to know our True Parents, their vision and their teaching. We gave Hyung Jin Nim’s inaugural UPF speech and a copy of True Fathers words about UPF to everyone present.

Follow True Father’s Example

Mr. Jim Gavin spoke about how True Father came to Capitol Hill in the 1970’s and met many members of Congress. Father was always very cordial, warm and friendly, yet he came with a message. He would speak about God’s three headaches: Communism, the breakdown of the family, and the division between religions. True Father would also speak about the mission of Jesus and teach congressional leaders the Divine Principle. People respected Father as a spiritual leader who had a world vision and because he spoke the truth, right from his heart, he was admired and respected. I said that’s a clue. We should be as straight forward as True Father is when we speak about the Founder of UPF, his vision and philosophy.

Rev. In Jin Moon Shows the Way

Jim Gavin shared how Rev. In Jin Moon has been visiting Capitol Hill, meeting members of the U.S. Congress and how she represented our movement when she met with leaders in other countries.

When Rev. Moon recently visited South America she met with the Vice President of Paraguay and told him that Jesus didn’t come to die but came to build God’s family on the earth. She asked him to consider what it would have been like if Jesus who represented what it meant to be a True Man, had a wife, who represented what it meant to be a True Woman. She would have worked by his side and shown women how to live to their fullest potential. Rev. Moon continued her presentation by testifying how Jesus anointed Rev. Sun Myung Moon at the age of 16 and gave him the mission to establish God’s Family on the earth. Rev. Moon taught the Vice President of Paraguay, with passion and conviction, for over 45 minutes. She always presents a copy of True Father’s autobiography to everyone she meets and as she presented the book and took pictures with the Vice President, he said, “Today I have met a spiritual prophetess, a great woman.”

I said, ‘there’s another clue.’ If Rev. In Jin Moon is sharing the breaking news and True Father is sharing his vision wherever he goes, shouldn’t we be doing the same? I suggested, to our UPF representatives, that we continue to hold our events, conduct our service projects and promote our campaigns on various issues, however, now is the time to bring our Ambassadors for Peace to the next level.

“Founders Forums”

Let’s conduct “Founders Forums” and share with them who the founder of UPF really is. Let’s share the breaking news that True Parents are here. Let’s share with them True Parents’ philosophy and share True Father’s vision for a world of True Peace; One Family under God, through the cross cultural marriage blessing. That’s what True Father, Hyung Jin Nim, and In Jin Nim are doing and we should follow their lead and share the breaking news as we continue to build UPF and increase our numbers of Ambassadors for Peace.

Japanese Human Rights

We then went into a session called “Campaigns,” where we heard presentations from Luke Higuchi and Rev. Joshua Cotter. Luke gave us a firsthand testimony of what it is like to be a victim of the Japanese Faith Breaking movement. After 30 minutes, people were well briefed and enraged at what was taking place in Japan.

Then Rev. Cotter presented Rev. In Jin Moon’s visits to over 50 members of Congress. He walked us through the meetings on Capitol Hill and the way that Rev. Moon is moving Congressional leaders to write letters and make inquiries with the State Department and the Japanese Government. He talked about the documentary video that is being produced and the work that is being done to hold hearings in Congress on this issue. Rev. Cotter said Rev. Moon is doing everything possible to end these terrible human rights abuses to our members in Japan. As always, Rev. Cotter’s presentation was excellent and very well received.

Action Steps

Jim Gavin handed out a petition and explained that the signed petitions should be sent to their own members of Congress and to members of the Tom Lantos Human Rights commission, requesting hearings on the Japanese Human Rights abuses. He suggested that everyone should set up appointments for Rev. Moon in their larger cities after the elections in November and December. We can set meetings with Governors and members of Congress that live in the metropolitan areas. If we can get 3 or 4 appointments on one day, in key cities, we will ask Rev. Moon to come to your state and meet them in November and December. Capitol Hill visits will continue in January and we can also visit our local congressional district offices to set up meetings for the New Year.

Best Practices

Our next session was focused on best practices being done today. Lourdes Swartz took us onto the internet and showed us UPF events and activities that are being conducted in three cities in Pennsylvania. Dr. Barbara Shin and Gudrun Gavin showed events and humanitarian projects that UPF in Minnesota has conducted. Richard Sapp from Florida presented a gleaning program, where they collected leftover fruits and vegetables from farmer’s fields to give to the needy and other events that have been ongoing for many years in his community. Maria Vargas, from New Jersey, presented her Guatemala project and an International Youth Essay Contest that she is supporting for the United Nations Year of Youth. Russell Oliver from Fredericksburg Virginia brought his web site up on the screen and showed many UPF activities, past and present that are being held in his area. All of these presenters are expanding the numbers of Ambassadors for Peace on a regular basis. Their presentations were a model of what can be done through consistent and persistent effort.

"The Future of the American Family,"

After lunch, Dr. Richard Panzer gave a presentation on "The Future of the American Family," in which he discussed trends in marriage in the U.S. Dr. Panzer pointed out that while there are some good trends including declining divorce rates and research showing the benefits of marriage, an increasing proportion of youth are growing up without both of their parents, exposing them to lives of poverty, low academic performance and emotional problems. He gave examples of how much sex ed curricula used in the U.S. fail to include any discussions of commitment and marriage and use language that normalizes uncommitted sex among youth.

Dr. Panzer concluded by speaking about the responsibility of parents, clergy, educators and community leaders to make sure that public school curricula discuss healthy relationships and avoiding risky behaviors, not promote misleading "safe sex" education that normalizes uncommitted, teen sex. The presentation was very well received. We then took a break and encouraged everyone to purchase books and training programs so that the program could be shared with schools, churches and organizations in their states.

Gen Peace Ambassadors

Diego Costa (UPF), Reiko Thorne (UPF) and Jaga Gavin (Lovin’ Life Ministries) presented a vision and practical programs for young adults, 18 to 35 years of age.

Reiko reported that Rev. In Jin Moon had suggested that the Youth Ambassadors for Peace program be renamed Generation Peace Ambassadors, or Gen Peace Ambassadors.

Diego Costa invited everyone to ‘master-mind’ with him and to think about the possibility of a Generation of Peace Nation, or Gen Peace Nation. He asked, “Where do most young people spend most of their time?” He then showed us that 96% of young people spend most of their time on Facebook. We created a page that young adults could come to called Gen Peace Nation. When they click on a link that accepts the ideals of the nation they can become a Gen Peace Citizen. If those same people provide a service or value to others they can be appointed as a Gen Peace Ambassadors. In the next 2 years, what if we were able to offer a Gen Peace Nation of 200 million people to True Parents? Wouldn’t it be great?!

Jaga Gavin talked about creating a television show on the internet that would address issues of interest to young adults. The first web show is on religious persecution in Iran, China, Russia and Japan. He went on to talk about the possibility of young adult small groups in all 50 states tuning into the show and talking about the content and as they become inspired, to take action and right the wrongs in American society and around the world. Reiko, Diego and Jaga’s presentation was considered by many to be one of the most interesting and exciting sessions.

Raising Money

Peter Hayes, from Kentucky, gave a presentation on how to raise funds through service projects and other programs. We brought his web site up on the screen and everyone was given access to information on how to raise funds to support their worthy causes and service projects. Peter volunteered his assistance to everyone and answered questions at the end of his presentation.

Media Relations

Doug Burton gave a presentation on how to work with the media. There was a recent media event that John Halsey, our UPF representative in Texas and our UPF representatives in Minnesota took advantage of: the Quran book burning issue. Both states got good media coverage through AP and National Public Radio and credit was given to UPF. Doug offered to write press releases and offered to send out lists of media to each state when a UPF event is held, a campaign is undertaken, or a cause is being highlighted by UPF. His contact information was passed out to everyone. After his presentation Doug fielded questions.

Protecting Families

Pierre Tardy spoke on the marriage initiative that had been won in California and in Maine where traditional families, families headed by a man and a woman, were being challenged. He passed out the law that was being proposed in those states to redefine families and the law that was adopted by the states of California and Maine to protect traditional families.

Letters and Proclamations

Bruce Sutcher from Chicago showed many examples of letters and proclamations he was able to obtain throughout the years to honor True Parents and our movement’s big events. It was a practical session on how to work with political office holders to obtain support for our True Parents and our providential programs.

Election Campaigns

Jim Gavin talked about the importance of being involved, as private citizens, during the election campaign season this year. Support Democrats and Republicans alike, support the people you like, support people who represent your values and support your friends in Congress. This is when people need help, and those members of congress that you support will appreciate your assistance. In a democracy it is our civic duty to be active in electing good people to represent us in all levels of government.

Share the Vision

Everyone was encouraged to take their work to the next level. This is the time when our National Pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, is proclaiming the breaking news that True Parents are on the earth. Our International Chairman of UPF is proclaiming the breaking news all over the world. We should follow their lead.

We should make sure all our Ambassadors for Peace have a copy of True Father’s autobiography. We can hold “Founder’s Forums” and share the vision and philosophy of True Parents. Between now and 2013, we can expand our numbers of Ambassadors for Peace to millions of people who believe in the Founder of UPF and understand his vision and philosophy.

Great Facility

The Training Center at 43rd street worked well for this program. Edward and Bobby gave us excellent service. We had three meals that were well prepared and served on time. The technical side of the program was well supported by Bobby. People raved about the sleeping facilities and were grateful to have such a nice place to stay for $25 a night. Thank you, In Jin Nim for all you have done to make 43rd street an attractive and practical facility to use for functions.

Invaluable Program

The UPF Master Mind was a good step in bringing together those who are interested in expanding and deepening the foundation of UPF-USA. Coming together like this is invaluable. It builds unity and it gives attendees the best practice models and inspirational ideas to create successful UPF and Ambassador for Peace programs all over the United States. We are planning similar program, on the west coast, in the near future. Special thanks to Reiko Thorne who “pulled it all together” with a beautiful heart.
