Report on AFPAWS Dinner meeting celebrating the 33rd UN Int’l Day of Peace
Many gathered together on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Windermere House overlooking beautiful Lake Washington and the Cascade mountains to the east.
Our purpose was three-fold: first to celebrate the 33rd UN International Day of Peace, second to hear some words from UPF Founders Rev. and Mrs. Moon about the necessity for the Universal Peace Federation and the Ambassadors for Peace program to give guidance to the UN’s peace-making work.
Following dinner, Mr. Prosper Ndabishuriye, founder of the charity JRMD-YRWD (Jeunesse en Reconstruction du Monde en Destruction – Youth in Reconstruction of a World in Destruction) which builds homes for Burundians displaced by the periodic inter-tribal strife between the majority Hutu and minority Tutsi communities. A video was shown showing homes built and a school in operation for disadvantaged children; altogether a very moving report. As Mr. Ndabishuriye said repeatedly, he can do great things with donations from “friends and friends of friends”.
Next the UPF Secretary General for Washington State gave a brief talk on the topic: “Why we need UPF’s guidance for the UN to accomplish effective peace-making.”
