Strengthening Community and Faith: Las Vegas Hosts Ambassador for Peace Assembly

UPF Las Vegas chapter held a successful Ambassador for Peace Assembly on June 27, 2026, in the Cheonshimwon Dining Room, bringing together 30 participants, including 21 members and 9 guests. The event concluded with the appointment of three new Ambassadors for Peace and highlighted the growing spirit of interfaith cooperation and community service in Southern Nevada.

The assembly began in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting the strong collaboration among UPF, the Professors and Professionals for World Peace Academy (PWPA), local church leaders, and community members. Minister David Matonzi, pastor of the Las Vegas branch of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, opened the program with prayer while standing beside a photograph of Rev. Sun Myung Moon praying in the same room years earlier.

UPF Las Vegas Executive Director Stephen Child presented the newly developed Ambassador for Peace PowerPoint presentation provided by UPF USA. The presentation introduced participants to the mission and accomplishments of UPF, including its consultative status with the United Nations, the principles of peace, and the important role of Ambassadors for Peace in addressing today's social challenges. Particularly impactful was the section entitled "Moral Clarity in Complex Times," which stimulated deep reflection among attendees concerning the growing mistrust in institutions, leadership, and society.

Dr. Thomas Selover followed with a compelling historical presentation tracing the spiritual heritage of the Korean people, the development and persecution of Christianity in Korea, and the remarkable Christian revival that transformed Pyongyang into what became known as the "Jerusalem of the East." His presentation provided meaningful historical context for understanding the lives and mission of UPF Co-Founders Rev. and Dr. Sun Myung Moon.

Dr. Grace Selover then offered a thoughtful perspective on the life and work of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, co-founder of UPF and PWPA, sharing insights from both historical and personal viewpoints. Longtime Ambassador for Peace Joyce Eatman, one of Nevada's earliest appointees, also addressed the gathering, encouraging recipients to actively serve their communities and uphold the responsibilities associated with the Ambassador for Peace designation.

An unexpected highlight of the event occurred when Alyson Egbert introduced Carrie Burton of "Just Serve," a nationwide volunteer organization that partners with thousands of service organizations. In an unscripted expression of appreciation, Burton presented awards of recognition to representatives from UPF, PWPA, and Family Federation in acknowledgment of their significant contributions to community service initiatives.

The assembly culminated with the appointment of three new Ambassadors for Peace. Among those honored was Chris Wright, founder and CEO of the AI Trust Council, whose work promoting integrity and accountability in technology strongly resonated with the assembly's emphasis on moral clarity and trust. Minister David Matonzi was recognized for his extensive ministry efforts, including prison outreach, addiction recovery support, and hospital visitation services that have positively impacted many lives throughout the Las Vegas community. President Craig Jex, First Counselor in the Warm Springs Stake Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was also appointed in recognition of his longstanding commitment to faith, family, public service, and community outreach.

The program concluded with President Jex offering the closing and dinner prayer. Participants then enjoyed a fellowship meal prepared by volunteers, providing an opportunity for networking, friendship, and further discussion. The assembly demonstrated UPF Las Vegas' continuing commitment to building bridges across religious, professional, and cultural boundaries while advancing the shared vision of peace through service and moral leadership.
