LAPD Celebrates United Nations Day with UPF

As the world marks United Nations Day on October 24, commemorating the founding of the UN in 1945, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) reaffirms its commitment to building a world of cooperation, compassion, and dignity. Founded by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, UPF promotes the vision of “one human family under God,” empowering faith and community leaders to put principles of peace into action. With consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), UPF bridges local initiatives with international policy, giving grassroots efforts a voice in global discussions on peace and human development.

Earlier this month, UPF Los Angeles brought this vision to life at the “Faith in Blue” event, a powerful example of collaboration between faith communities, civic leaders, and law enforcement. The gathering included three Ambassadors for Peace, ten ministers, ten LAPD officers, and 100 guests, who came together to strengthen community ties and promote safety and understanding. The LAPD invited UPF to participate and encouraged attendees to bring their own networks; nine UPF representatives joined, including Pastor Patricia Strong-Fargas, Dr. Teddy Choi, Shantha Sobhana, Mr. Avinder Chawla, and Rev. Jeong. Officer Deon Joseph, a respected leader in Central Los Angeles, shared critical insights on community challenges, while faith leaders and Ambassadors for Peace provided encouragement, coordination, and support for participants.

UPF’s engagement extends far beyond Los Angeles. Across the United States, Ambassadors for Peace mobilize congregations, civic groups, and local organizations to address pressing social issues, promote interfaith dialogue, and foster reconciliation. Through interfaith prayer services, peace walks, youth leadership programs, and community service projects, UPF ensures that the vision of lasting peace is not just a principle, but a lived experience. The Faith in Blue event exemplifies how faith and civic collaboration can transform neighborhoods, inspire dialogue, and build bridges between communities and law enforcement.

As we celebrate United Nations Day, UPF invites all faith and community leaders to reflect on the power of collaboration. Peace is not simply a vision—it is a shared mission. By joining hands, sharing resources, and working together locally, we contribute to the global goal of a just, harmonious, and peaceful world.
